SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Harpswell’s Celebration of 250th Anniversary of the USA
Information as of April 6, 2026
- April 26 at 4 pm: A presentation by Matt Gilley on the History of Fishing in Harpswell at Cundy’s Harbor Community Hall
- May 25: Memorial Day Parade – All are welcome to march or ride in the parade starting at 11 am in Harpswell Center.
Harpswell Colonial Days – July 16-19
- July 16: Patriotic Concert by Harpswell Concert Band at the Harpswell Bandstand by the Sea, Mitchell Field, 6 pm
- July 18 (rain date July 19): All events at Harpswell Center
- 11 am – 4 pm: The Coastal Maine Living History Association will establish a Revolutionary War encampment with re-enactors demonstrating musket firing, cooking and other camp activities on the grounds of the Meeting House and the adjacent field belonging to Deane Van Dusen.
- 11 am – 4 pm: Tours of the red, white and blue Centennial Hall gardens
- 11:30 am – 2:00 pm: Children’s colonial activities—Girl Scout Troop 1263 and Recreation Department in Centennial Hall
- 12:00 – 3 pm: Tours of the Harpswell Historical Society Museum
- 2 pm: Reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Harpswell Meeting House, exactly 200 years from the original reading
- All day: Bake sale, Pammy’s lobster rolls, hot dogs at the Elijah Kellogg Church
- July 26: Lobster Boat Parade before Lobster Boat Races (to-be-confirmed)
- August 1: Tour of Harpswell churches on Bailey Island, Cundy’s Harbor, the Neck.
- August 1 at 4 pm: Community concert at the Elijah Kellogg Church.
- August 15: Tour of Harpswell burial grounds on the Neck, Islands and Cundy’s Harbor
- September 5 (rain date Sept 7): Architecture Tour of properties on the National Register of Historic Places. 9 am – Noon on Cundy’s Harbor and the Islands; 1 – 3 pm on the Neck
- September 27, 1-4 pm: 250 Years of Harpswell Farming, plus cider pressing; Merriconeag Grange 10 am to 2 pm
All Season
- Scavenger Hunt, July 4 – August 31: Harpswell History Hunters, prizes from the Town of Harpswell
- Kids Activities at Cundy’s Harbor Library
- Adventure Backpacks at Orr’s Island Library (Kickoff July 4)
- Other possible programs such as a seafood day, bean supper, boat rides
