Harpswell History Harpswell Neck Library Association
West HARPSWELL, ME., July 27, 1908.
To Whom It May Concern:
On June 30, 1908 an organization was legally formed at West Harpswell to
be known as the Harpswell Neck Library Association. Its object is to
establish and maintain a public library for the helpfulness and
uplifting of its citizens as well as to furnish entertainment of the
best sort for permanent residents and summer residents alike. Officers
were elected and the Board of Directors sends out this notice and the
subjoined appeal.
To establish and maintain this public library it is necessary that gifts
of money and books shall be received. Will you not kindly help us, dear
friend, in this effort to help our fellow men ? Have you not a few
dollars that you would gladly give to further such an enterprise Have
you not a few books in your temporary or permanent home that you would
willingly donate to help along such a worthy object ? Fifty cents will
make you a member of the association.
The treasurer will gladly receipt for any money you may feel inclined to
give and the librarian will call and collect any hooks you may be
willing to bestow if you will but notify him, or the Association will
pay transportation charges upon any considerable packages of books that
may be sent from out of town. Hoping that you will give this letter your
earnest attention, remembering that a little from each means the success
of much, we subscribe ourselves.
